How to measure a chaise lounge cushion (that reclines)

A sun-lounger cushion has one confusing step: the frame reclines. Do you measure it flat or bent? Flat — always. Here's the full method.

Lay it flat first

Recline the lounger all the way flat, then measure head to foot for the length and side to side for the width, at the seating surface (skip the armrests). A cushion is sewn as one boxed piece that flexes with the frame — so it's measured flat.

The fold hinge

If your lounger's backrest bends at a hinge, note roughly where along the length that hinge sits. We can place the boxing seam near it so the cushion folds cleanly instead of bunching.

Thickness on a lounger

10 cm is luxurious but heavy to move; 8 cm is the practical default that still folds well at the hinge.

FAQ

My lounger reclines — flat or bent?

Measure it flat, fully reclined. The cushion is one boxed piece that bends with the frame; measuring it bent gives a short cushion.

Where does the fold go?

Tell us roughly where the backrest hinge is along the length and we place the boxing seam near it, so it folds cleanly.
